Elizabeth St Family Care's mental health services are provided by Ms Quyen Mai, who consults every Thursday from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Quyen Mai is an Accredited Mental health social worker who has had significant experience in the counselling field for the last 10 years. She is fluent in both Vietnamese and English and has clients from both the Vietnamese as well as mainstream Australian community. Quyen’s academic backgrounds are education and social work. Prior to having a private practise for the last 5 years, Quyen worked at CatholicCare Family services as A Family Counsellor doing Drug and Alcohol Counselling as well as general counselling.
Quyen while being a generalist counsellor, has nevertheless had significant experience working with children, clients with anxiety and depression, clients with family and marriage issues; clients having addictions problems (Alcohol/Drugs /gambling etc); suicidal clients as well as those who feel stuck and find themselves having no purpose or meaning in life.
Quyen’s therapeutic modalities include competence in Cognitive behavioural therapy; Psychodynamic theory; Family systems therapy, as well as Motivational Interviewing skills. She has a profound understanding of Asian, in particular Vietnamese culture and incorporates this knowledge in her therapeutic approach with amazing outcomes.
